Midweek Silent Preached Retreat for Women
May 9 - 11, 2023
Theme: "St Francis de Sales”
St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622), priest, bishop, and Doctor of the Church, gave his life and utilized him many gifts in the service of our Lord. He was an encourager of souls: not only religious, buy lay as well. He is probably best remembered for his deep understanding of human nature and thus his emphasis on the little things we can do each day for God with great love and fidelity.
You have already discovered that in our human relationships, it is often the little things that matter most: the chicken soup brought to a sick neighbor, the cheery call on a rainy Sunday afternoon, the early morning ride to the airport. So too, St. Francis tells us, is our relationship with God nurtured. He understood that most of us will not do flashy, heroic things for God, but that we can do a multitude of small things with great love.
Termed the “gentleman saint”, St. Francis de Sales taught simplicity, humility, patience and generosity, and their application to ordinary, everyday life. What a friendly saint he is, a friend to guide us in the art of loving God.
