Dear Brothers and Sisters,
There is a topic that is close to the heart of many, and one that I am asked frequently: how can one better understand our loved one’s choice to leave the Church? This situation can be distressing, confusing and puzzling for many.
As people of faith, we attend church. We do our best to honor the teachings and sacraments of the church. And we acknowledge the comfort and joy that come from being part of our Catholic family of faith. So why would someone want to step away?
The reasons are many, and not always what you might think. How can we better undestand this phenomenon and respond with understanding, compassion and hope?
For those living this experience, we invite you to our upcoming day-long retreat: Missing from the Pews: Why Did They Go? Seeking Understanding When Our Loved Ones Leave the Church.
By gathering in community we will explore these themes with prayer, reflection and dialogue.
